200 — Phew!

 hot toddy

Now I can relax a bit. I might call in sick tomorrow. In fact, you might say I’m feeling committed to doing so.

I knocked down the last 10 miles tonight, then had the following mixture, partially on Emily’s advice (my mother kept telling me how my grandfather made her one once when she was a youngster with a wicked cold):

  1. Tazo Lotus Tea
  2. Lots of honey
  3. 1 oz. Scotch (an ancient bottle of Cutty Sark from my other grandfather’s house — still clear and smelled fine…)
  4. a bit of lemon

Rather good I must say. I could get used to it… I’ve never been much for the hard liquor — more of a beer and wine two can Sam. Also had a good shot of Robitussin to break up the winter crud.

Now, if I only had some cinnamon toast. Or, some homemade chocolate chip cookies and big glass of milk…

Aren’t you glad you dropped by to check up on my health?

Viral

bug

I saw the virus that I’m fighting as I was walking down the street today. It was hovering in the corner, near the trashcan and recycling bin. I gave it the finger. It blinked its eyes, but showed no sign of comprehension.

I think exercising helped a bit, after the burning in my chest went away. I’m hoping I can dissuade it from getting worse. The girls are feeling pretty rotten. I’m hoping they get over it soon…

190 Miles

abstraction

So, my revised goal mid-January was to do 200 miles this month, then see if I could lather, rinse, and repeat that goal for the next 11 months.

Last night, I felt the stirrings on bronchial ineptitude creeping (or rather coagulating) up on me. Winter crud, that all too familiar state of being constantly phlegmy, dry, and inflamed (the nasal passages especially, ironically dubbed by the medical world “rhinitis”).

Blah, Blah, Blah. Poor me!

So, I took last night off and read a little more of Dhalgren and then prepared for a fitful night’s sleep (both girls are coughing and Natty is spewing once in a while…)

Great meeting today in Lancaster with the best darned client I’ve ever had. I felt at home in Amish country, with my ever-lengthening beard.

Anywho, point is I didn’t want to wuss out on my exercise commitment, so I rode another 10 miles. I took it easier, but my lungs burned a bit afterward. My hope is that it will serve as a cease and desist order for the virus/bacteria battling it out in my chest and I’ll wake up a shining flower of radiant youth and energy.

Boo-Yah! (or something…)
