1002 / Simulacra and Simulation

May
31st, 2008

I had just gotten the bike onto the bike rack on the back of the car when I looked up at the sky, grey and swirly as it was, and a big ole drop of rain landed on my forehead.

“…”

Jennifer talked to Ma, who has the weather channel and she advised against hitting up the NCR trail. Something about being under a tornado watch until 5pm.

So, the first 20 miles of the last 27 miles I rode in the basement on the trainer: Simulation.

“I’m in Zermatt, riding down a mountain with a view of a glacier on one side…” (See the latest Bike magazine to understand what I’m talking about.)

Anywho, we hit up Bicycle Connection this afternoon thinking we’d buy Olivia’s new bike. Trouble was, it was too damned expensive. So, we hit up REI. They were all out. So, we drove to Princeton Sports. They had several, and Olivia settled on a purple 16 incher with a basket on the front and graphics of a fairy with green wings (pretty psych-o-delic…)

Greyson was up, so we spent some time at Ma’s. Then a solo supper for mio while the girls played in the back yard and Jennifer chatted up the neighbors. Steak and salad. Homemade vinaigrette.

I hit the road around 6:20 or so and road leisurely down to the water tower in Hoes Heights/Hampden and back.

now I’m at 1002 miles for the year. 2002 Total miles, as documented by the Cat Eye cyclocomputer. probably close to 2500 given the six months of riding I did before I bought the computer.

Tomorrow I will NOT be riding.

Now you’ve read a representation of my day. A still life. A simulacrum.

962 / Watt Goot Is Eh Day!

May

So, I’m coming to a stop at Roland and Northern Parkway this morning and the guy in the car to my left turns out to be a guy from my office.

He’s leans over and says, “Grab the bumper, man!”

Took me a second to realize who he was…

Then, this greying european sounding guy rolls up on my right on what I think was a Gary Fisher and says:

“What Good is a Day!”

[ ... 20 millisecond processing time ... ]

“Oh, yeah, man, it’s great!” I say.

So, my friends, I say to you: “WHAT GOOD IS A DAY!”

[ cue the theme song from the good, the bad and the ugly ]

as evidenced by the photo below, the year of the warlock continues to rage on:

I got a white gt performer and promptly began replacing the components. Somehow, I broke my crank arm, so I had to replace those too.

over time, it morphed into a purple and lime green monster.
