Rediscovering Radness

May
26th, 2008

last week sukt. mid-week, I was feeling psycho. we bade farewell to a true soldier at a happy hour that night. sour oliver pale ale at flips and then a guinness. this two can sam was in bad shape.

I slept really poorly that night and my rage and anger turned into regret and anxiety.

Thursday night I slept like a log being crushed by a semi rig. it was sweet relief. As I say, my favorite free time activity is sleep…

Friday we got out early and I rode around Druid Hill Park on the ride home. That helped chill me out. Then a neighborhood potluck and more blessed sleep.

Olivia and I hit up the Bicycle Connection Saturday in search of new grips for her scooter. By some insane luck, they had a pair in purple, one of Olivia’s favorite colors (”My favorite color is all the colors of the Rainbow”)

Trix are for kids, kiddos.

BC didn’t have the Ergons I was looking for, so I asked Olivia if she minded stopping by REI too.

“Sure, Dad. We can look for something for my bike that you have on your bike, like those nets.”

“Nets?”

“You know, on your pedals.”

“Ah, clips you mean.”

“Yeah.”

(Hmmm….)

REI didn’t have the right kind of Ergons (I have ancient and outdate GripShifters (before they became SRAM even!)

Olivia decided that she wanted to look at “Bicycle Clothing”

Alas, we picked up a paired of recycled shorts that were on clearance. Needless to say, our little fashion plate was very happy…

Jen and I went for a bike ride that afternoon. 3 miles. I had my brakes on a good part of the ride, but it was nice to get out.

Saturday night, we went to see Prince Caspian. Our neighbor watched the girls. When we got home, Olivia was konked out, but Natty was still going strong. She showed me the hamster (next door). Hammy was gettin’ the lead out on his treadmill/wheel.

“He smells…” Natty informed me.

Sunday: Nursery duty at church. Nobody showed up. Lunch with Damien, Taffy, and Grayson at Mom’s. Then I left at 3 to do 15 miles down and around Druid Hill again.

Dinner at Sushi Hana followed by diaper shopping at Whole Foods.

This morning, let Jennifer sleep in a bit. Now, I’m gonna get degreased and head out for another ride.

Life ain’t over at 33, it’s just beginning.

(okay, I know that was gaggingly schmaltzy. apologies…)

15 miles everyday this week, then 20 on Saturday.

Can it be done?

Staying Positive

May
20th, 2008

I’m trying hard to stay positive today and not sink into a sinkhole of anxiety. So far, so good.

Went to WholeFoods and got some sushi and a Clif Mojo Bar and a Clif Nectar Bar. I should be zooming around the cubicle in a few minutes.

The muscle above my left knee has been a little twitchy today. It is probably good that it is raining so that I get a break from riding.

Tomorrow I have a meeting downtown in the morning, which means I’ll have to shave and be all spiffy. This will invariably cause a good deal of pre-, during, and post-anxiety. But I’m not going to focus on that. I’m going to focus on being positive. Vibrant glowing aura of Mattitude. Shiny sunny Frankism.

I managed to trigger an infinite loop 5 times while working in Flash today. I enjoyed the spinning, really.
