O, Castrated Beardliness

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Moody Wednesday follows grumpy Tuesday. Berryman rocks it goodly in this one:

Dream Song 14

Life, friends, is boring. We must not say so.
After all, the sky flashes, the great sea yearns,
we ourselves flash and yearn,
and moreover my mother told me as a boy
(repeatingly) “Ever to confess you’re bored
means you have no

Inner Resources.” I conclude now I have no
inner resources, because I am heavy bored.
Peoples bore me,
literature bores me, especially great literature,
Henry bores me, with his plights & gripes
as bad as Achilles,

who loves people and valiant art, which bores me.
And the tranquil hills, & gin, look like a drag
and somehow a dog
has taken itself & its tail considerably away
into the mountains or sea or sky, leaving
behind: me, wag.

1650/2650/3000

I have 9 days to do 150 miles. This is to keep on schedule. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. I mean, I could, but that would be exhausting. Instead, I’ll probably do 11 a day and make up 50 in October.

Can you say “Another Run for the PA Border”?

Who wants to plan a 40 miler for early October?

1630, or how I rode from Ashland Road to New Freedom, PA

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I rode 40 miles today. Started at Paper Mill Road and road up through Monkton on the NCR. Then to the I-83 bridges around mile 13. At mile 15, I said wtf, might as well run for the border. I got to New Freedom, PA at 3pm.

Then I ate a Clif Bar and turned around. I pushed myself — going between 14 and 18 mph — and got back to the car around 4:30.

The total trip time was 3 hours.

I feel very mellow right now…
